Taxi Unions attack ridesharing services Want to use Uber, Lyft, or Sidecar to get a ride? In many major cities, you can’t legally. Taxi driver unions have lobbied local governments to stop these services from operating due to “safety concerns,” and the Philadelphia Parking Authority, of Parking Wars fame, has even seized the cars of those offering rides. All this in spite of the fact that these companies carry $1 million of insurance and perform background checks on drivers. Can government get any more ridiculous?
