Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, was found guilty of apostasy and sentenced to lashing and death by a Sudanese court for marrying a Christian man and refusing to renounce her Christian faith. In spite of a global outpour of support and the claim by a foreign affairs ministry official that she would be released, she remains in prison. Her husband states that the only way she will be released is by way of the appeals court.
