University’s “Bias-Free Language Guide” claims that saying “American” is “problematic” The guide on the University of New Hampshire’s website, intended to promote “inclusive excellence,” lists words like “senior citizen,” “elder,” “Caucasian,” and even “healthy” as being problematic. However, in spite of all its trappings, the guide’s goal of preventing people from getting offended was not attained; UNH president Mark Huddleston said the guide “proves offensive to many people, myself included” and pulled it from the website.
